Parimal Theater


At the beginning of the nineteenth century, plays were staged in different places of Kushtia district. That is when a permanent theater was built in the district. It was named Parimal Theater after the son of the then Kushtia subdivision ruler. Famous Kolkata actors like Prametesh Barua, Durga Das, Shishir Bhaduri, Angurbala, Indubala etc. came here many times. It was here in 1912 that the rebellious poet Kazi Nazrul Islam was given a reception by the people.

 

March 1971. The armed freedom struggle of the Bengalis started this month. At the call of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the Damal boys of Bengal jumped on the Pakistani aggressors with whatever they had. Then, after a long nine-month bloody war, freedom was snatched away.
